A Step-By-Step Checklist for Your Move in Moncton

Moving in Moncton? To ensure that your move runs as smoothly as possible, it can be very helpful to create a step-by-step checklist. List everything you have to do and when you have to do it on your checklist in order to organize your move and make sure that you aren’t forgetting anything. The following is a rough checklist you can use to help you plan your Moncton move.

Two Months before the Move

At this time, you should be investigating Moncton moving companies. Interview various movers on the telephone and have your top choices come to your home and give you on-site estimates. Ask each mover for references to help you guide your decision.

Sort through all of your belongings and decide what you will and won’t take with you. Make a list of all of the items you plan on discarding.

Determine if any of your items will require special packaging or disassembly.

If you have children, go to their school in Moncton and arrange to have their records transferred to the new school.

Gather all important documents, notes, and contact information related to your move in a folder or binder.

Start packing non-essential items.

Fill out and submit a change of address form at your local post office.

Buy or borrow packaging materials for your stuff. You can find good deals on boxes and packing materials online. Some items you’ll want to order include permanent markers, bubble wrap, boxes, and tape.

One Month before the Move

Start using up items that you won’t be taking with you, such as perishable foods.

Send change of address cards to your friends, relatives, bank, insurance firm, and doctors, among others.

If possible, take measurements of the rooms in the Moncton home you’ll be moving into, and determine if your furniture will be able to fit through the doorways.

Label boxes for your essential items so you can find them quickly and easily on moving day. Gather together valuables, such as jewelry and important documents, and put them in a box that you’ll personally transport to your new home in Moncton. Make sure that the box includes your important folder or binder that has your moving contract and other important documents in it.

Arrange to have utilities disconnected on moving day and installed in your new home by the time you arrive.

Two Weeks Before

Contact the Moncton moving company again to confirm the details of your move.

Take your car in for a tune-up to ensure that it’s in good working condition.

If you take any prescription medications, make sure to have them re-filled for the next few weeks.

A Few Days Prior

Pack suitcases for you and your family that contain enough clothes to use for the first few days after the move.

Take apart furniture or any items that need to be disassembled beforehand.

Make sure all of your bills are paid.

Clean the house as you pack.

Defrost the freezer at least 24 hours before moving day.

Set cash aside to pay the Moncton movers a tip if their crew does a good job. 10 to 15% of the total bill is considered a good tip.

On Moving Day

Disconnect your appliances.

Turn off your water and gas.

Empty your refrigerator.

Drain hoses.

Sign the inventory list before the Moncton moving company leaves, and make sure to get a copy.
