Tips for Unpacking and Settling down after Your Calgary Move
Congratulations on your move to Calgary. Although you’ll feel like hitting the sack after the last of your boxes as been unloaded at your new Calgary home, the battle is only halfway over. After your Calgary movers have unloaded everything, you have to go through and unpack all of your belongings.
Thankfully, the most stressful part of your move is complete. Unpacking and making your new home livable is not as overwhelming as it seems. The key to success is staying organized and in control.
If you have children that are too small to help you with unpacking duties, make sure to set aside some coloring books, activities, and toys to keep them entertained so they stay out of your hair while you unpack. If your children are old enough to do some unpacking, tell them to go explore their new rooms and start unpacking their own belongings.
Immediately after you move in, you’ll need to have some essential items on hand, such as kitchen utensils, towels, linens, and non-perishable food items. Make sure to unpack those items first so it’s easier for you to settle into your new home.
Make sure that the Calgary movers unload your biggest and heaviest furniture from the truck first. By ensuring that the heaviest items are in place first, it will be much easier for you to put the rest of your belongings in place. Once every piece of furniture and all large appliances are in place, hook up and install all of the appliances.
When you unpack boxes after your Calgary move, the kitchen is a good place to start. If you fill your kitchen cupboards first, you’ll have quick access to snacks and foods that will re-energize you while you are unpacking. Taking breaks during the unpacking process is important in order to give yourself the chance to take a rest and to motivate yourself.
Instead of unpacking everything in one room before moving to the next, consider unpacking approximately five to seven boxes and then moving to the next room. It can get very boring to stare at the same room all day long, and it may feel as if you’re not making much progress if you don’t rotate a bit.
Whether you’ve recruited some friends and relatives to help you move your belongings or you have hired a professional Calgary moving company to take care of every aspect of your move, it’s good etiquette to buy everyone something to eat and drink. You can make cleaning up after the meal easier by purchasing paper cups, napkins, paper plates, and plastic eating utensils beforehand.
Get a copy of the local yellow pages before the move so you have the option of ordering take out. Unpacking can be very exhausting, so you probably won’t be in the mood to cook for a few days. If you have a copy of the yellow pages on hand, you can order take out when you feel tired or look up the addresses of restaurants in the area and eat out.
Once you’re done unpacking everything, take a final inventory of your belongings and compare it to your initial inventory list to check if everything arrived. If you realize that something is missing or come across damaged items take note of it so you can file an insurance claim later.
