A Timeline of Things to Do Before, During, and After Your Move

To plan a successful move in Alberta from start to finish, it’s essential to create a timeline detailing the things you need to do before, during, and after your move. Merely hiring an Alberta moving company and hoping for the best is not enough. Here are some tasks you should consider putting on your relocation to-do list.

Before Your Move

Create a file where you can place important documents and receipts relating to your move.

Get to know your new community by searching for information about entertainment, shopping, and dining online. Consider subscribing to the community newspaper.

File a change of address to ensure that all of your mail is forwarded.

Arrange to have your telephone and utilities connected at your new home.

Order moving supplies so you can start getting rid of things that you aren’t going to keep as well as pack non-essential items. Book your move with an Alberta moving company at least six weeks in advance. Give yourself even more time than that if you’re moving during the busy summer months.

Sort through all of your belongings, and get rid of everything you don’t need. Make a list of which items you will recycle, discard, donate, and give away to friends/family.

Create an inventory list of all of your belongings. You can use that list to confirm that the Alberta movers did not lose anything during the move.

Make a checklist of essential items that you will need for the first few days after the move, and be sure to set all of those items aside.

During Your Move

Make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before moving day so you are energized for the move.

Eat a hearty breakfast and set some snacks aside in case you or the Alberta moving crew gets hungry.

Supervise the Alberta movers as they load the truck to ensure that they do so properly and take good care of your belongings.

Label the boxes of items that need to be loaded last so you can access them easily when you get to your new home.

After Your Move

Focus on unpacking the most essential items. Don’t rush to unpack everything at once to avoid stress. Take your time, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Designate a room in your new home as a room for relaxation. Keep the room free of clutter and set up some basic furniture there. A relaxation room will come in handy when you need to take a break from packing to relax and recharge.

Start unpacking the kitchen first so you can fill your cupboards with re-energizing snacks that you can eat when you take breaks from unpacking.

Unpack and set up your bathroom after doing the kitchen. Setting up the bathroom can be rewarding because it won’t take you much time, yet it allow you to cross something off of your never-ending to-do list.

Take a break to drive around and get acquainted with your new neighborhood. Find out where the nearest bank, grocery store, and hospital are, among other places.
